It is a good catch. The phrase also included the word 'markets':

'while in markets, and the economy a key is to try to predict the future.'

I would reframe it to:

'whereas in financial markets and the economy, it is more important to look forward.'

The exact meaning was that most analysts look at already reported data which has already happened, it is a history but we need to look forward, we want to somewhat predict the future to position our portfolios in the right way and ourselves in the economy.
